There are so many ways to style velvet, dress it up, dress it down, add lace, wear leather, heels, flats.. the list is endless. After reading FarFetched Style Guide : WHY VELVET CLOTHING SHOULD BE YOUR GO-TO FABRIC I was compelled to write my own post about ways I would wear velvet.
street style
Velvet clothing caused a street-style sensation in 2016, and I don't see that stopping any time soon! I love looking a street style to get inspiration. No catwalk, no crazy hair styles and avant garde make up just real people wearing real clothes that I can have and own myself. Seeing how different body types style clothes really helps me envision how I would look myself in certain fabrics, colours and styles. As a plus size girl it's so good to see similar size girls rocking fashion that I love.
Velvet on velvet : This is a bold move but if you change up the colours (so it doesn't look like a tracksuit situation) velvet on the top can look great with velvet on the bottom.
Velvet slip dress : This is a style I see a lot with different texture slip dresses, from satin to velvet to corduroy. A crushed velvet slip dress layers over a long sleeve ribbed top is so effortless yet so chic. Even us plus size girls can pull it off! Pair with a simple flat trainer (converse is my show of choice) and you have an instantly cool and chic look.

GRUNGE
Denim, Leather, Studs, boots and dark velvet! This is a much more grunge, rock & roll take on velvet. Darker shades, mixed textures and lots of sass. Whilst I do like my feminine, girly days I am at heart a darker, grungy style lover. Velvet is the perfect material to mix with different textures! This is the most popular way to wear velvet outside of 'just a dress' as you can literally pair it with anything in your wardrobe for a personal style.
Velvet & Leather : Throw a leather jacket over that feminine slip dress and you have instant attitude. Layer on some silver jewellery and some studs to complete the look.
Velvet & Merch : Pair your velvet skirt with a distressed band tee for a laid back grunge look! Mix and match heels and flats to totally change up the whole look in seconds.
